Subaru Engine Ordered

Well, after much hand-wringing and beginning my research on a IO-320 “Lycosarus” engine, we placed an order with Eggenfellner Aircraft for a 2.5L single cam Subaru package for delivery in June of 2006. Apparently there was definitely enough customer interest in these engine packages for him to do another batch of them. I talked to Jan this morning on the telephone. He said that he intends to build 30 2.5L engine packages for 6/06 delivery and they are going fast. I told him I would send him my order today. The total, with all the goodies is about $30K. ($250 now to place the order, 50% six months before delivery, and the balance before delivery.) By comparison, an experimental (non-certified) new IO-320 with constant speed prop looks like it would have been around $32K. So there isn’t any large cost advantage. It is all about a modern engine.
