Beware - Tanya’s typing now. I can’t stand all the pictures without any words to go with them. My descriptions won’t be as good as Scott’s, but at least it’s a start.
The final skin made its way to the garage. Word to the wise, if you have it, use a full face mask instead of just safety googles when drilling upside down on the floor. The goggles didn’t quite keep all of the shavings out of Scott’s eyes.
Our finishing kit arrived February 24th. We rented a little U-haul and went to pick up the crate. This was my fist experiencing seeing the loading of a crate. I sure would have liked the crate to be more solid on the forks, it seemed to be balancing on the tips. How do you folks that live and breathe RVs stand watching your precious cargo in such a precarious position? Let Christmas in February begin…
What a measly load of goodies! Talk about a let down after unpacking and doing inventory on the wings and fuselage. I kept looking for the rest of it. The canopy made it upstairs and under the protective covering of a couple blankets. I can just picture Watson jumping up and scratching it - or worse. More barriers have been erected since this picture was taken. Hmmm, now what do I do with overnight guests? Scott hauled most of the parts to the construction staging area (spare bedroom), and I went to work on organization. I bet all builders wish they could get out of this task.
Scott fabricated and attached brackets for nutplates for the floorboard. The next task was to cut out a couple sections (access panels I think) in the front skin. Scott is king of measurements, so as you go down this path, he has some pretty pictures for you with his exact measurements and locations. David and Zach - I think this was for you. Instead of fabricating metal covers, he broke out the fiberglass. It took a couple tries, but they finally made it to the curing stage. (Apparently the pumps failed to measure accurately, so out came the scale the second round.)
