airbox assembeled & cowl riveted
Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007I got the airbox assembled, finally. Some people have wondered just how to retain a hinge pin without a bunch of effort or unsightly mechanics. Simply cutting the pin a little short and peening the hinge barrel on each end does the trick. This is what I did for the carb heat door hinge. I used proseal to bond all of the parts that I riveted to the fiberglass parts. I also put a fillet of proseal around the carb heat scat tube flange in hopes of it not cracking as most do over time.
I also got all of the hinges and oil door riveted to the cowl. I used the machine countersink to clean out the proseal from the rivet holes. That was quick and easy. I also spent some time installing the ring terminals on the large gauge wires at the starter and alternator. I also wired up the carb temperature sensor and primer valve electrics. They both work great. I think it is about time to start finalizing stuff closest to the engine and work my way out.
