Flight

I got a chance to do a little flight this evening. Great fun. There were thunderstorms in the area, but were staying just south east of the field. I did some more stalls and messed with some more power settings. My stall numbers are pretty much the same as what Vans publishes. Big surprise huh?
I finally got my GRT XM weather properly activated! I’ve been fighting it to do the activation as published. Ever since I installed the unit, it only partially activated. I had radar data fine, but not any lightning or wind data. Also, the “service level” didn’t report correctly. I did the activation procedure many times to no avail. Today I tried again and it worked correctly. Now I have all of the data correctly. Any progress is good.

In other news, I got an email from GRT today basically saying they have never heard of all three displays locking up at the same time… The only question about that was if they were all on the same page (nope, all on a different page). I guess somebody has to be first. I’m kind of surprised they didn’t have more questions about that. No word on the other GRT stuff I have issues with, like the oil temp sensor that is completely useless. I guess I’ll have to keep after that with them. Oh, Jeff did comment that they have a known problem that they are having problems duplicating with the USB interface between the XM receiver and their module in the new units. It seems that this could be the cause of my XM receiver data dropout issues.

I also got a call from Brad at Emag ignitions. We talked for about 40min. They couldn’t fail my second unit on their test bench. My current units are doing fine so far. The only ideas he had was a faulty connector on the end of my wires, or a power problem at the time the starter is engaged. Not exactly anything to write home about. We talked quite a bit about the v.26 software. It has some pretty significant changes in how they store the timing angle (presumably unrelated to my problems). I am very happy with the customer service from Brad and Emag. They are concerned and interested in the problems that I have had.
