Lake Murray, Oklahoma

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Sunday was shaping up to be a beautiful day, so we decided we would fly up to Lake Murray for lunch. I called to make sure they were open for lunch, and we took off mid-morning. We had some bumpy layers to fight our way through and were happy to have a plane that climbs so well. We started at 4500 and were happy there for a while but then found we needed another 1000 feet. Fortunately, that was time for a direction change and worked out perfectly. We stopped at Bridgeport for some cheap fuel. We drove up to an empty fuel pump, and by the time we finished fueling, there were 5 other planes waiting in line. The good omens were piling up.

The short hop to Lake Murray was easy. We embarked on the stroll to the lodge. I enjoyed it as I like taking long walks and knew I’d work off some of the lunch we were about to much down. We arrived at 2:10 to find out that the restaurant closed at 2. One of these days I will learn to be sure to ask that question. There were two empty tummies on the way back to the plane. As luck would have it, the plane was parked right by the pro shop (being generous). I don’t golf, but I know enough that almost every course has a 19th hole. If there was probably beer, I deduced that I could at least find a Coke and some pretzels or chips. The luck gods were with me again, and they had a small display with a turkey and cheese sandwich. Score! Turkey and cheese sandwich and a Coke - a standard lunch for Scott. There was a grin when I arrived with that stash. I was happy for a small lunch as we were planning on a nice dinner for our anniversary in the evening.

We had a 35 knot tailwind on the way home, and we saw 199 knots ground speed. I couldn’t convince Scott to go downhill just long enough for me to take a picture at over 200.

Time to update the state list. One more down and many, many to go.
